New Offshore Wind Farm Flight Briefing Contract

1 July 2010
Leading aviation video and multimedia specialist Viscom has been commissioned by Bond Air Services to produce helicopter briefings for the workforce of the UK's largest offshore wind farm.
Bond Air Services recently won the first contract of its kind to transport crew to and from the Greater Gabbard Wind Farm, which is owned by Scottish and Southern Energy and is located off the Suffolk coast.
Crews are normally ferried by boat, but when urgent maintenance is required helicopters are used to bring in crew at short notice by hoisting them down onto the turbines work platform.
Bond awarded Aberdeen-based Viscom the £5,000 contract because of the company's unrivalled experience in the oil and gas and aviation sectors. The programmes focus on helicopter safety and hoisting procedures.
Viscom General Manager Bruce Milne said: "This is new territory both for Bond and for us in providing briefings of this nature, which are much more involved than a typical passenger briefing.
"We have had to actively develop the procedures based on a combination of experience and forward thinking for all concerned."
