It's Back to School for Viscom Team!

11 October 2009
Viscom General Manager Bruce Milne and Production Manager Richard Holman have been working with pupils at Northfield Academy in Aberdeen to help them produce a video as part of a healthy eating initiative.
The group of 19 first-year students approached the Viscom team to guide them through producing a video advertisement promoting the benefits of a nutritious snack bar.
Teacher Bettina Hutchin and Aberdeen City Council enterprise development officer Christine McLennan used the project to introduce critical skills to the class within the Enterprising Education and Hungry for Success initiatives.
On the Viscom team were general manager Bruce Milne, production manager Richard Holman, and cameraman and editor Richard Browne. They were involved from the start, joining pupils in small groups to discuss naming and designing the snack as well as creating the actual advertisement.
Ms Hutchin said: "Bruce and Richard Holman spent time listening to their ideas, providing them with quality feedback on their storyboard ideas and judging the different group entries. Once the winning combination was chosen, they worked with the whole class to turn the design into reality.
"This involved creating costumes, planning choreography, choosing music, making props and assigning production roles to each pupil in the class."
The Viscom team then filmed the ad, taking directions from the pupils' production team, and edited the video.
Ms Hutchin said: "Working with Viscom was a really valuable experience for us all. It was good to see the pupils developing their confidence and generating excellent ideas within smaller teams before joining forces as one team to complete the ad.
"Viscom's commitment to the pupils was first-class and it meant that the pupils were motivated from start to finish."
Bruce Milne said: "We had made it known to the council that we were interested in getting involved with Enterprising Education and were delighted when Northfield Academy approached us.
"It was a challenging project, but in a positive way because the children did not have any pre-conceived ideas about what could or could not be achieved. The quality and variety of ideas that came forward were exceptional, which made it tough for the Viscom team to judge the entries!"
